If you’re from another state and want to visit the Omaha Zoo, there are several transportation options available to you:
By Car: If you prefer driving, you can use a navigation system or GPS to guide you to Omaha. Check the best route and plan your trip accordingly. Omaha is accessible via major highways, such as I-80 and I-29, depending on your starting location. Once in Omaha, follow signs to the Henry Doorly Zoo, which is located at 3701 S 10th St, Omaha, NE 68107.
By Air: If you’re coming from a distant state, flying may be a convenient option. The nearest airport is Eppley Airfield (OMA), located in Omaha. You can book a flight to this airport and then rent a car or use public transportation to reach the zoo.
Once you arrive in Omaha, you can use a map or GPS to navigate your way to the Henry Doorly Zoo. The zoo has parking for visitors.
Parking at Omaha Zoo
The Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo provides a large parking lot that accommodates visitors arriving from both the South Entrance (main entrance) and the North Entrance. Lied Jungle
The Lied Jungle is a captivating and immersive exhibit within the Omaha Zoo that transports visitors into the heart of a tropical rainforest. We all loved how immersive this indoor jungle was. It really made you feel like you were in a jungle and watching the monkeys was magical.
Prepare to be awestruck as you encounter a diverse array of plant and animal species (monkeys, tapirs, macaws, and pygmy hippos) that call the rainforest home. Marvel at the vibrant colors of tropical birds as they fly overhead, and listen to the songs of exotic birds echoing through the foliage. Keep an eye out for playful primates swinging from branch to branch, and be amazed by the intricate patterns and vibrant hues of butterflies that flutter around you. The Lied Jungle is truly amazing.

Desert Dome
In the Desert Dome, you’ll embark on a journey through 3 different deserts from around the globe. This iconic exhibit is the largest indoor desert in the world and offers a truly immersive experience that showcases the beauty and diversity of desert ecosystems.
As you enter the Desert Dome, you’ll encounter the warm, dry air that mimics the desert environment. The exhibit is divided into distinct sections, each representing a different desert region. From the arid deserts of Africa to the cacti-studded landscapes of North America, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the unique characteristics of these remarkable habitats.
Stroll along sandy pathways and marvel at the variety of plant life that has adapted to survive in these challenging environments. Encounter towering saguaro cacti, resilient succulents, and vibrant wildflowers that bloom against all odds. Keep an eye out for desert-dwelling animals, such as reptiles, amphibians, and small mammals.
Our kids loved the Desert Dome and its inhabitants. They love reptiles and were excited to see species that they’ve never seen before.
*The Desert Domes paths are not that wide and get congested very quickly.
Kingdoms of The Night
Below the Desert Dome, you’ll find Kingdoms of the Night. This exhibit takes you on a journey into the mysterious world of nocturnal creatures.
Step into a dimly lit space that mimics the ambiance of a moonlit night. The Kingdoms of the Night exhibit is a sprawling underground complex, carefully designed to immerse you in the sights, sounds, and smells of the nocturnal world. As you explore, you’ll encounter a diverse range of creatures that thrive under the cover of darkness.
Wander through wet caves, and winding pathways, each leading you to different habitats and the fascinating creatures that live within. Observe the graceful flight of bats as they swoop through the air in the dry bat cave.
I must admit that I do not like bats at all, meaning I don’t want to see them at all, but here, I couldn’t stop watching them them lit up in the dry bat cave. In all my zoo adventures, I have never seen a bat exhibit like this and its impressive.
Once you’ve finished your adventure in the cave, the next stop is the serene Eucalyptus Forest, where you’ll have the opportunity to discover the captivating world of Australia’s nocturnal animals. As you wander through this enchanting forest, keep an eye out for playful wallabies. Stroll alongside a stream while catching glimpses of crocodiles, adding an element of excitement to your journey. The Eucalyptus Forest offers a tranquil and immersive experience, allowing you to appreciate the fascinating wildlife that thrives in the nocturnal realm of Australia.
As you near the end of your Kingdom of the Night adventure, prepare to be amazed by the world’s largest indoor swamp. Step onto the boardwalk that meanders through this remarkable exhibit and get ready to encounter a captivating array of wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for beaver lodge, Trapper’s Cavern, and towering cypress trees. But that’s not all – the swamp is also home to mighty alligators and a host of other fascinating creatures. Suzanne And Walter Scott Aquarium
Let’s not forget about the Suzanne and Walter Scott Aquarium, a must-visit attraction at the Omaha Zoo. This exceptional aquarium invites you to explore the mesmerizing depths of our planet’s water systems showcasing a diverse range of aquatic life. Immerse yourself in an awe-inspiring underwater realm as you encounter a stunning variety of colorful fish, graceful sea turtles, mesmerizing jellyfish, sharks, penguins, and more.
The penguins were our favorite of this incredible exhibit. We have never seen such active penguins before. They were fascinating.

Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge
Take a leisurely stroll or bike ride across the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, which spans the Missouri River and connects Omaha, Nebraska, with Council Bluffs, Iowa. Enjoy panoramic views of the river, downtown Omaha’s skyline, and the surrounding natural beauty. It’s a great spot to capture some memorable photos of being in both states at once or simply relax and take in the scenery.
Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park
Located about 29 miles southwest of Omaha in Ashland, Nebraska, the Lee G. Simmons Wildlife Safari Park offers a unique wildlife experience. Take a drive-through adventure at the best safari park and encounter various North American animals in their natural habitats. You can see bison, elk, bears, wolves, pelicans, and other fascinating species up close. The park also features walking trails and picnic areas, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Don’t miss prairie dog town.

If you haven’t stayed at a TRU hotel yet, you should, especially if you have kids. My kids get so excited every time they get to stay at a TRU hotel.
The hotel itself provides a range of amenities that cater to families. The rooms are a little smaller than average hotel rooms but they were well thought out and are functional. Aside from the slightly smaller room, the hotel offers a complimentary breakfast with plenty of options, ensuring a convenient and hassle-free start to the day. Additionally, there are common areas such as a pool and a game room where families can gather and enjoy some quality time together. The game room has TVs, plenty of fun games for all ages, and fun seating. Your family is sure to have fun.
Tru by Hilton Omaha I-80 also features amenities like a fitness center, and outdoor seating area, providing options for recreation and relaxation during your stay. The hotel’s modern and vibrant atmosphere creates a welcoming environment for families, with friendly staff available to assist with any needs or inquiries.
